Very interesting article, one thing I noticed with A-list bloggers is that when they start off they already have a reader base, means they'll always feel motivated to post since they know there'll always be people out there to read what they are writing. We started a blog on our site recently and sadly we still have 0 readers...

It is good to hear you say this. This has been my sense--as well as my fervent hope. I have maintained that in the end--what matters on the Internet is the same as in the "real" world--that is having something to offer--some type of content that is some way valuable to people--any that, of course, can vary widely.

Promotion, SEO--all matter--as does marketing and advertising in the "real" world. But in the end it boils down to substance.

It is not all the snake oil I see all over cyberspace.

Andy, I kinda dropped the ball a little with this install and the myriad of mods i'd made prior. In short I had a server that was hacked to bits so have been playing catch up sorting all manner of other issues!

I have actually downloaded your vers of sociable or anti-sociable as you so renamed it and will be getting around to installing it soon!

Anyhow, get back to work you slacker :D

One of the problems with a growing readership is that you have less opportunity to link out with them in a meaningful manner, or even time to read their content. I honestly sometimes a few days without opening a feed reader if I am writing something extensive, investing time in learning or working on niche sites.

The funny thing is I could easily have created content on less in depth subjects, or more popular topics and been more successful - and spent a lot less time doing it.

I have actually slowed down a little in March - I need to increase the posting a little.

What makes it worthwhile is to see changes in how people implement things, especially professional SEOs such as yourself making the occasional change. I notice in your sidebar you are using is_home() for a certain plugin, but you really should use the hacked version of sociable I now provide :)
